Dear Grade Six Parents,

Before and after the evening performance of the Christmas concert, on Wednesday, December 16th, the Grade Six Class will hold a bake sale to raise money to support Tsege, our sponsored child in Ethiopia.  Tesge is only slightly older than our Grade Six students and must struggle to meet her basic needs.  With our help, she has a much brighter future.

If you are available to volunteer at the bake sale, your help would be very much appreciated!  We will need parent help setting up the tables, handling cash, and cleaning up at the end of the sale.

Please note:

For crowd control reasons, baked goods will only be sold to parents before and after the concert and not to students performing in the concert.  If parents would like to buy a treat for their child after the concert, then they are more than welcome to do so!

Curriculum Connections:

In Social Studies, the class has been learning about global citizenship, human rights and poverty.   In Language Arts, they are reading a novel called The Garbage King set in Ethiopia.  Both units serve to shed light on poverty and injustice.  Our class goal is to become informed on current global issues such as these, think about how we can help and then take action.  Taking on real-world issues provides meaningful learning for students and motivates them to step up and take responsibility when they see others in need.

What to do:

  • Involve your child in making one or two dozen home-baked goodsequivalent in size/value to a medium-sized cupcake
  • We will aim to sell everything for $1 each
  • Deliver baked items to a table set up inside the school entrance either first thing in the morning or after school on December 16th.
  • Ensure items are on a tray labeled with your child’s name (we will return it to you)

o  I would like to help during the Bake Sale

o I am available to help before the concert. (set up, cash)

o I am available to help after the concert. (take down, cash)

Thank you in advance for supporting this important cause and teaching your child he or she can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Mrs. A. Withers and

Mr. T. Rogers
