Dear Parents, for the last several weeks the children have been reading and recording facts about 2 Aboriginal Peoples of B.C., the Dunne-Za and the Secwepemc. This past week they have been working on the cover page and the 2 illustrations that are part of the report. Please see the yellow sheet in your child’s SS duo tang. One side  describes the criteria and the other is the Paragraph Writing Rubric (we used this for the Copper Inuit report).

For the most part, the children have collected all of the facts available in the textbooks. Your child should now be working on writing paragraphs using the facts recorded. Please check in with your child to ensure he/she is using his/her time well to have the report completed by Wednesday, Mar. 4.

The cover page, paragraphs and illustrations should be stapled together and clipped to the yellow sheet (your child rates himself/herself on the criteria ONLY) and the fact sheet.

I’ve shown the class past reports as samples of what is expected. Some of the children don’t seem to have a clear understanding that a report is more “formal” than regular assignments and should reflect top quality work.

I hope this is of help to you. I have a few samples in the classroom for you to see  on Friday.

Regards,

Marie
