Dear Grade Six Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to drive. I am happy to report that we now have more than enough drivers. If you volunteered, I will be contacting you this evening via phone or email message to let you know whether or not we will need you to drive and/or supervise.

We have an early court time so please remember to bring your child to school for 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday.  Thank you!

Please note that the students, while not in uniform, will need to dress in a way which shows respect during our courtroom visit. In addition students need follow guidelines for behaviour in a courtroom. Mrs. Campbell has kindly passed on the following tips and I have copied them for you below.

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you early on Tuesday.

Warm Regards,
Mrs. Andrea Withers

1. Dress Code

The best way to describe appropriate dress would be “country club casual”. No flip flops or running shoes. No hats. No gum. No T shirts or hoodies. I would expect that shorts are probably not appropriate given the gambit of what are considered shorts.

I leave it to your discretion as to whether jeans will be allowed. (Note from Mrs. Withers: We will allow jeans)

2. Behaviour

No private conversations. Sit quietly. No cell phones/games. No food/drink.
Do not speak to the Judicial Justice unless spoken to. Address the Judicial Justice as “Your Worship”.

Show deference to the Court when entering or leaving the Courtroom or entering or leaving your seat by slightly bowing to the Judicial Justice.

The Court is open to the public. No doubt there will be all sorts or inappropriate behaviour and manner of dress to be observed in the Courtroom. But as this is a learning exercise for the class as to how the Court system works, it is a good idea for them to understand what is considered appropriate and respectful behaviour in Court no matter the level of Court.
