Dear Parents, your child has brought home his/her Social Studies duo tang and Draft notebook and needs you to help with editing the 3 paragraphs he/she has been working on for several sessions. They may have mentioned the All About Me poster they will be creating. Please refer to the criteria sheet in their duo tangs. They brainstormed for and recorded facts about themselves (age, hobbies, sports, activities, likes, etc.), family (number of people, names of family members, cultural background, etc.), and traditions. We discussed traditions and they seem to understand what is meant by this. We also read/viewed several posters in their text books as well as several brought in from former students. Traditions are what you as a family or culture do on a regular basis. Ex. As Christians, we celebrate Christmas by attending mass together, having special meals, and opening presents. We celebrate Easter by attending mass, having special meals, perhaps having Easter egg hunts, or baking special breads. As part of your culture, you may celebrate other special days. Ex. you may celebrate Chinese New Year and hand out red envelopes. Some traditions are very simple. Ex. Each summer you may go camping or attend a family reunion. During the year, you may celebrate birthdays with extended family, have weekly movie nights, cut down your own Christmas tree, etc. Please help your child edit his/her work. You may also make some suggestions regarding culture and traditions. Please return the edited paragraphs by Tuesday, Oct. 5 so I can check to see that the criteria is being met. The draft will then be returned so your child can work on the final copy at home. Your child has the option of doing the final paragraphs on lined paper or using a word processor, if that is easier for him/her.They will be creating/assembling the posters on Wednesday, October 13th so please check in with your child to make sure work is progressing. I will provide them with poster board (56cmx35cm) so keep the dimensions in mind when writing/typing the paragraphs and when looking for a photo to include. Please contact me if you have any questions. Feel free to come to grade 4 to view the posters on display.

Thanks very much for your support and help.
Regards,
Marie
