Dear Grade Six Parents,

You are invited to attend the Grade Six Remembrance Day assembly on Monday, November 9th, 2015.  We will begin after recess at 10:50 a.m. and expect it to last between 30 and 40 minutes.  The assembly will be held on the 9th this year due to an important Grade Six volleyball event on the 10th.

Our class is working hard to plan and prepare the assembly.  Each member will have a role which they have chosen themselves.  In addition to a PowerPoint presentation, personal readings and poetry, the assembly will include the Grade Six class singing a hauntingly beautiful song called “Remembrance Day Child.”

Last but not least, we are pleased to host a guest speaker from the Richmond Legion who was a child during World War II.  He has agreed to give a five minute talk during the assembly and will visit our classroom afterwards for a more lengthy question and answer period.  He plans to talk about how Canadian soldiers were responsible for liberating his home country of the Netherlands and plans to impart the gratitude he feels toward Canada as a result.

I hope you are able to attend this meaningful assembly.  Please feel free to  ask your child questions about his or her learning on Remembrance Day and to share how your own family has been touched by war.  The students have been very engaged and eager to learn about this topic.

Thank you again for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Andrea Withers
