Dear Parents, now that your child has collected and recorded the facts needed for the world cultures comparison, please help him/her edit for correct spelling. Please refer to my earlier post and the criteria sheet for details regarding what else to collect and do. Your child may print the sentences containing the facts by hand or using a word processor. Headings may also be done by hand using markers, crayons, or pencil crayons or using a word processor. Captions must also accompany the photos. They may do this at school on the 25th when we work to fully complete the posters. They worked diligently during our 3 classes to record more than the expected 2 facts per basic need/culture. I’ve asked the grade 5 students to bring in their posters to show the children. If you have older children who still have their posters, you may send it in  as samples. I would greatly appreciate it.

Reading Power: Your child will be bringing home a brief description of our new reading strategy: Questioning. We’ve already used this strategy in class with several fiction and nonfiction texts. To further help your child, you may wish to do a “question the text” activity at home. The form is on the back side of the Questioning sheet. I will not be collecting the sheet so do not feel obliged to complete it. Using the strategy while reading any text with your child will help your child better understand what he/she is reading so try it when you next read with your child.

Hope this post answers any questions you may have about the poster.

Have a good evening,

Marie
