Dear Parents, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break. Best wishes for a new year filled with happiness, health, and peace for all.

In an earlier post, I wrote about an upcoming assignment in Social Studies. We have been reading about how the traditional  Copper Inuit met their basic needs. Your child began  researching and recording facts on only one of the 3 basic needs
from their text books and L.A. sheets (found in their duo tangs). Most have now completed this research. The next step is writing a draft for this report. Please have a close look at the different sheets found in the duo tangs for a full understanding of expectations. The first pink sheet is a break down of how the report should be written (format). On the other side of the same sheet is a Grade 4 Paragraph Writing Rubric. I will be using this rubric to evaluate your child’s report. The following sheet, RSS 9: Research and Reporting Scale, is a writing guide for your child to use for a self-evaluation of the report. Your child has recorded his/her facts on RSS 16. Please take some time to go over this with your child, checking for spelling and accuracy.

The next step is writing a draft which is due on Jan. 10th. If printing by hand, please ensure your child double spaces so there will be room for corrections. Writing must be legible. If using a computer and printer, please use a size 12 or 14 font size and double space as well.

The final report is due on Jan. 20th. If your child is not using a computer and printer, your child must use lined paper and remember to double space once again. Please use one side of a sheet of paper only. Handwriting is encouraged even if for only part of the full report.

Please remember this is your child’s work. You may of course help your child organize and edit the report.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me.

Thanks very much.

Regards,

Marie
