Dear Kindergarten Families,

We had a great day in Kindergarten today!  Baby Angelo (Chiara’s new baby brother) came for a visit.  What a gorgeous baby boy.  Angelo was born on February 9th so he is just 3 weeks old.  Angelo will be visiting us once a month. Baby Gabriella (Charlie’s four month old sister) has been visiting our class since she was born.  Gabriella is like a real doll!  She is so cute.  The Kindergartens enjoy having these babies visit us.  We are learning so much!  We take pictures, measure how long they are, ask questions about what they can and can’t do,  and of course ooh and ahhh over the miracle of these little things!  Thank you to Mrs. Varju and Mrs. Sala for sharing your newborns with us!

During this season of Lent we have been talking about how we can “grow and change” into better people.  Please pop into the Kindergarten room tomorrow morning (Family Friday) to see our Lenten board.  It is starting to “bloom”! This afternoon we talked about how people years ago folded their arms across their chest when they were praying.  To remind us to pray we made pretzels this afternoon!  The boys and girls had a great time reading the recipe, adding the ingredients and then getting to make their very own pretzel.  They noticed that a pretzel looks like our arms crossed across our chests.  The children asked me to send the recipe home.  It is a very simple recipe.  Here it is:

SOFT PRETZELS

1 package of yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

4 cups flour

1 egg (beaten)

course salt

*Measure warm water into large mixing bowl. Sprinkle on yeast and stir until it looks mixed. Add salt, sugar, and flour. Mix and knead dough.  If dough is too sticky add more flour.  Divide the big ball of dough into small balls.  In Kindergarten we make 25 balls out of this recipe! Ask your child to put the balls into groups of 5 and then count by 5’s (we had to add some math into our baking lesson)!!  Roll out each ball to make a rope.  Twist rope into a pretzel shape. Lay twisted pretzels on greased cookie sheets.  Brush pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with course salt.  Bake at 425 for 12 – 15 minutes.

Enjoy and remember to pray!!
