Dear Gr. 5 Students and Parents,
Last month the class entered the “Young Writers’ of Canada Poetry Contest”. Each student in the class wrote an original poem and submitted it to the Poetry Institute of Canada based in Victoria. (www.youngwritersofcanada.ca)
In the next few days, your child may receive an acceptance letter in the mail stating that your child’s poem has been accepted and that Young Writers is asking for permission to publish the poem in their annual publication that comes out every June.
You are under no obligation to purchase a copy of the book ( usually it is a 250 page soft cover book ) to have the poem published. I will have a copy of the book in my classroom in June. However, it does make for a nice keep sake.
All you need to do is fill out the “release form” and return it back to Young Writers or you can give it to me and I will mail it back to the Institute. If you chose to purchase a book, it will be delivered to your home in late June.

Also thank you to all the Gr. 5 students who reverently participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation yesterday with Father David and Father Henry. I was very pleased with how seriously the students prepared for and responded to receiving the Sacrament.
