Dear Grade 3 Parents,

The Fairytale Ball was a great success with lots of singing and dancing by all. In Gr. 3, we have continued to read and discuss traditional and twisted fairytales.  The students have created their own twisted fairytale based on Cinderella which we would like to “publish” like real books.  The children will need your help. I have asked them to type out their good copy at home.  The children are also very eager to illustrate their story at home.  Here are some guide lines for you to follow:

-Parents can help with the page set up and typing (especially for the longer stories)

-Please use an easy to read font (ie. Arial)

-Size of print:16-20

-There needs to be at least 3 typed pages to show the beginning , the middle and the end of the story.  Longer stories can have more pages.

-Each page must have the top half empty for an illustration. The typed story text should be on the bottom part of the page.  Please leave approximately a 3 cm margin on the left hand side so that I can “bind” all the pages including the cover together. Print only on one side of the page.

In class, we have also been working on a dedication page, About the Author, title page and will be creating covers for our stories next week.  These pages are not to be typed or completed at home.

For illustrations, the students can use markers and pencil crayons. No wax crayons please.  Student are always encouraged to plan their drawings using pencil first. Also, please remind the students that the illustrations must match the text on the page.

As of today, I have only proofread about half the stories.  By tomorrow all the stories will be returned to the students. Please try your best to have the typed story completed by Tuesday, Feb. 11 as we will be putting the pages in order for binding.

Thank you very much for your support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please drop in or email me.  The books will be on display in the hallway once they are completed.
