Dear Parents,

On Wednesday, October 22nd, the Grade Seven students will be attending We Day at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. This free annual event is organized by the Free the Children charity. Over the past years, the Grade Seven class has been very active in raising money for this charity, and our monthly pizza lunches will be our principal fundraiser this year. We Day is an unforgettable and inspiring experience for the students.

We will be traveling by Canada Line to Rogers Arena. As the event is free, the students only need to pay their Canada Line fare ($5.50). I will be collecting this money in advance so that I can purchase all of the tickets efficiently at the station.

Students will meet at Richmond-Brighouse Station at 7:00am on Wednesday. Weather permitting, we plan to walk from the Yaletown-Roundhouse station to Rogers Arena. If it is pouring rain, we will transfer to the Skytrain at Waterfront, and take it to Stadium-Chinatown Station.

We will be returning to Lansdowne Station at approximately 3:15pm. Please note that this station has been selected because it is easier for cars to wait there. Parents are asked to pick up their children from Lansdowne station at that time.

I would have liked to tell the students about We Day sooner, but it has been challenging to secure enough tickets. The event’s ticketing policy changed a few years ago, and schools are now only given enough tickets for 20 students. Another school has recently offered some of their tickets to us making it possible for the entire class to attend, and those tickets have only just been confirmed.

I will be sending home the permission form for this event tomorrow. Until that time, you can read more about “We Day” online at

Jamie Withers
