Dear Grade Six Parents,

It was wonderful to meet with you in person during Parent Teacher conferences last Thursday.  Thank you for making the time to talk about your child’s Grade Six education.  I have a few updates to share with you, and I have listed them below.   Thank you in advance for your support.

Update on Past Events

  • Successful Stress Ball and Bake Sale:  The fundraiser made an amazing $402.50 at last week’s Parent Teacher Conferences.  The profits will go towards our sponsored child from Ethiopia.  Thank you to all the students and parents who supported this initiative.
  • Grade Six Haunted House- Students hosted an entertaining event for Grades One through Five last Friday afternoon to celebrate Halloween.  All students were involved in leading stations.  The class received compliments from the other teachers for their leadership.  Mr. Fraser has pledged to donate 25 cents to our sponsored child for every “satisfied customer” of our haunted house.  That total is still being tabulated.

Upcoming Projects and Events

  • Photo Re-takes– It is with great relief that I announce the retake date for all photos.  If you would like to have your child’s photo retaken, please call Mrs. Lorenz in the office as she is organizing a list for the photographer.  The class photo will be retaken on the same day with hopes that we will look less like 30 deer in the headlights… and more like our good-looking selves!
  • _The Garbage King_ Novel ProjectDue Tuesday, November 18th, 2014, was assigned today.  Please ask to see your child’s project description sheet located in his or her homework folder.  I have outlined progressive due dates for each portion of the project to help students manage their time.  These dates are noted on the sheet.
  • Remembrance Day Assembly- Friday, November 7, 2014 at 10:50 a.m..  The Grade Six Class is in charge of all aspects of the assembly from reading to singing “In Flanders Fields.”  We will be delighted if you are able to attend.
  • H.R. MacMillan Space Centre Field Trip- Thursday November 20, 2014 –  Please look for a purple notice tomorrow (Wednesday).  The class will be attending this excellent field trip including a hands-on workshop on extremophiles.  We welcome all available parents who can help us make it a success.  We will need drivers and supervisors between 9:20 and 3:00.

Thank you for your attention and for helping to make this school year a success so far.

Sincerely,

Ms. Andrea Phillips
