Dear Parents, here is some info regarding the Special Person assignment. The children may have already shown you the interview sheet. Some enthusiastic children have already begun their interviews! Attached to the interview sheet you will find a brief description of what is required. The completed interview is due on Wed. Nov. 13th. I will read it and return it to the children by the next day or Friday at the latest. Meanwhile, help your child collect some of the items to be included on the poster (I will provide the poster paper. Please see the dimensions listed on the interview sheet / attached criteria) including, if possible, a photo of the Special Person. Please have your child bring in the items and the completed paragraph(use the sentences in the interview sheet) by Tuesday, Nov. 18th as we will be creating the poster in class. Your child may choose to type the paragraph or may print it by hand.

This week the children have been reading about how different countries meet their basic needs: food, shelter, clothing. Today, they began recording their facts using the books I assigned them. Not all the pertinent info may be found in the books, however. Therefore, I asked them to look at other resources such as the internet, library books, magazines, and brochures. Most have recorded several facts already and are ready to locate and record facts on a second country. Some already have begun this though, again, they may need to do some more research. Please have them show you the criteria sheet for this assignment. As is written in the criteria sheet and as I explained to them, they are required to record only 2-3 for each of the basic needs per country. Many of the children have more than enough facts on food but need a bit more on shelter and clothing.

Please take some time in the coming days to find info on the basic needs for their 2 countries. They may use the books we have in class or, if there is not enough info or they wish to research a country for which I don’t have a book, they will need to bring in either their own nonfiction books or downloaded facts from the internet on Wed. Nov. 12 so we can continue recording the facts in class.

Thanks very much for your support with this. As always, please contact me if you have any questions about either of these 2 assignments.

Regards,

Marie
